Fiddleheads rehearses on Saturday afternoons from September to June, at the Mill Rd. Community Space (8 ch. Mill) in Chelsea, QC. Our fiddlers range in age from 5 to 18, and are divided into 3 different levels, based on ability.
All fiddlers are required to have at least 1 year of private violin/fiddle lessons prior to joining Fiddleheads, and are expected to continue weekly private lessons in addition to Fiddleheads group classes. Looking for a private teacher? Many of our instructors also teach private lessons! Contact us and we’ll put you in touch with one of them.
In all our classes, we teach a variety of tune types (jigs, reels, etc.) and styles (Canadian, Irish, Scottish, etc.). All tunes are taught by ear, with recordings (and sometime sheet music) being provided for all tunes. Each year, we bring in guest artists to give special workshops and concerts for Fiddleheads students. Past guest artists include Shane Cook, Pierre Schryer, Julie & Kerry Fitzgerald, Gordon Stobbe, and Natalie MacMaster.
Interested in joining Fiddleheads? Contact us to set up an audition! Sheet music and recordings are also available for all audition tunes.
